In solidarity with Ukraine since the invasion began
We don’t know the exact numbers, and even if the US Government does know, they wouldn’t release it as it could easily be seen as direct military involvement against Russia.
Best estimate is around 3,000 US civilians have travelled on their own to fight alongside Ukraine. Most are veternas, law enforcement, but many are not.

There’s no way to confirm these numbers, but one thing’s for damn sure, US citizens and soldiers have stood in solidarity with Ukraine since the invasion began. They are the second largest volunteer pool from the international presence, second to Poland, (and for good reason). And Ukraine, from what I personally witnessed, honors every American hero as their own.
