Appropriately, Merry Christmas from St. Nicholas the Wonderworker, . Fr. Ivan told me that between them and the front, there are no more Catholic Churches. They are the spiritual front line, ‘Just people, bombs and drones’.
Ok, what this man has done is just unimaginable. He single-handedly serves 500,000 people affected by the war, following the destruction of the Dnipro Dam, which was devastating to countless people. An absolute war crime that went unnoticed by the world. This community is incredible, they feed, shelter, and give psychiatric care for their people.
His brothers, friends, parishioners, and family are being killed daily. They have lost dozens and dozens of lives. He carries on with compassion and dignity. The massive bomb shelter he built is designed to make children happy and comfortable. He has built a community that truly loves one another, they care for each other and deeply support their sisters and brothers. He is a warrior, through and through. To meet a human like Fr. Ivan feels like a rare thing - but I don’t think it’s rare here, it’s just the way it is.
